It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Search Dog Rauour.
As a much loved member of SARDA Southern Scotland, Rauour had an incredible career that spanned over a decade, helping Police and Mountain Rescue teams across Scotland search for missing and vulnerable people.
With handler John by his side, he deployed on more than 150 callouts and in 2015 was honoured with a PDSA Commendation for his role in locating a critically ill woman during a blizzard.
In 2023 his long and dedicated career was rewarded with retirement, but to Rauour this meant nothing. His love for training and attending callouts never wavered and handler John kept his spirits high by running local exercises, letting him continue to do what he loved most.
His work as a Search Dog was nothing short of aspirational and he has made a lasting impact, not only to us, but to the entire Scottish Mountain Rescue community. He will be sorely missed by us all.
Rauour, your enthusiasm for the job will continue to inspire us all. Stand down, buddy. Stand down.
